Radiotherapy Patient On-Treatment Review (Level 7)
Overview
This double work-based module is of particular interest to therapeutic radiographers who wish to develop their career through undertaking radiotherapy on-treatment review clinics. The module will require participants to build on prior academic knowledge to develop clinical skills and become competent and reflective practitioners. Clinical skills development will be achieved in the clinical environment under the guidance and supervision of an appropriate mentor. Assessment comprises a portfolio of cases, a case study, and a self-reflective commentary. Participants must have the support of their manager as success in this module is dependent on access to on-treatment review clinics.

Entry Requirements
- Registered therapeutic radiographer with access to appropriate clinical experience and written support for module from clinical manager.
- Student support for studying at Masters level is to be discussed with the pathway advisor. Students who have not previously undertaken study at academic Level 7 (Masters level) are advised to consider accessing materials offered by the Library to support L7 writing.

All elements of assessment must be passed to pass this module.

Knowledge and Understanding
- Evaluate the biological impact of radiation within a broad range of contexts and using this to underpin professional decision making
- Critically evaluate the legal, ethical and professional frameworks in the development of evidenced-based care packages and understand legislation in respect of professional practice and accountability
- Critically reflect on their working practice and take a holistic approach to patient on-treatment review
Intellectual Skills
- Actively engage in interprofessional approaches to oncology management
- Critically analyse their own role in the application of professional standards and accountability in relation to the assessment of patients undergoing radiotherapy
- Evaluate the significance and role of continuing professional development and education, including being able to assess their own needs and reflect on their development
Practical Skills
- Reflect upon, and use appropriate communication strategies with patients and colleagues and propose solutions for effective discussion of clinical issues with patients
- Develop and review care packages utilised in the management of patients receiving radiotherapy
- Demonstrate an ability to obtain, analyse and evaluate clinical information from the patient
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning and problem solving in the context of professional self-regulation
