Program Overview

Evidence Based Operating Department Care (Level 6)

Overview

This module develops the specialist practice knowledge and skills in operating theatres. The teaching and learning methods will be interactive, participatory and student led. Using action learning the module will explore legal and ethical issues, elements of patient care (such as pain management) and multi-agency and inter-professional practice. Students on this module will be assessed on both a theory and competence component. It is expected that students will have a full time post with in a theatre department and the support of their manager to achieve competencies within the specialism. The department will also need to be able to support the student in learning additional surgical specialities for the duration of the course. Students need to organise with their manager their own placement mentors.

Encompasses multi-professional working and a sharing of expertise and skills across traditional professional boundaries and fields as new services and roles are being developed to meet current and future challenges for perioperative service delivery.
