Program Overview

Real Estate - PgDip / MSc / Top-up to MSc

Overview

Our newly designed Real Estate courses are ideal for those looking to get ahead in their career. Whether you already have a background in the built environment or are changing career, our aim is to develop your expertise and give you the skills to flourish in the real estate industry.

You will work alongside other built environment postgraduates, gaining valuable contacts and insights into other disciplines. If you're looking to progress in general practice surveying, property management, investment, development, banking, government or other property related fields, Real Estate at LSBU could be perfect for you!

Why Real Estate at LSBU?

  • Course content: Focusing on commercial property for occupation, development and investment, largely in an urban context.
  • Skills development: We will develop your property-related skills and knowledge in the context of industry.
  • Insights: Into the nature of land and property investment, development and management and the impact on the vitality of our cities and environment.
  • Graduate prospects: Our graduates go on to work in finance, banking and real estate. Many form their own companies and we keep an open dialogue with our alumni helping to keep the course grounded and employment opportunities available.

We offer different course options, depending on your circumstances:

  • New Cognate version: This year we are looking to recruit those working in Real Estate or within local authority/housing associations who wish to match their experience with a route to a professional qualification, If you hold an undergraduate Surveying/Real Estate degree or relevant experience, you could apply for the ‘Surveying graduates’ route as you will study fewer modules; your previous experience will be taken into account. As this is a new option you will need to discuss your interest initially with the Course Director, Andrew Maber-Jones, at .
  • Non-Cognate version: If you do not hold an undergraduate Surveying degree, you should apply for our ‘Conversion’ course. Two supplementary modules at the beginning of the course bring you up to speed in relation to Valuation & Surveying, Sustainable Construction before you embark on the master’s level modules. These supplementary modules are a distinguishing feature of the course and are highly valued by students and their employers. There is a higher fee for this course because you will be studying more credits.
  • For the above routes, you can opt to study either a full master’s qualification or a PGDip qualification (the same course but the PG Dip you do not complete a dissertation). Part time options over 2 years are also offered.
  • Postgraduate loan funding via Student Finance England, is only available for students taking full master’s courses without any module exemptions. PGDip courses are ineligible for this scheme.

Expertise and history

London South Bank University has a long history of educating professionals for the building-related industries. With roots in London Council School of Building (1904), Brixton School of Building (1940) we have been offering training for this sector for over 100 years.

Today we are expert at attracting property and construction students from the UK and around the world. Much of this is down to the highly successful links we have with major real estate consultancies, property companies, contractors, cost consultants and developers to ensure our courses are highly relevant for the current market.

Today, according to the Guardian PG subject tables 2013 we are the largest School of Building and Town Planning in the UK (combining full-time and part-time modes of study) and our building graduates have the best employment prospects in London (Complete University Guide 2014).
