Overview

Equip your team with the skills to optimise asset performance across their lifecycle, minimising costs and driving business success. This apprenticeship prepares asset managers to contribute strategically to organisations in sectors such as energy, transport, and manufacturing, ensuring assets are managed sustainably, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements.


Course Details

Core Modules

  • Asset Health and Life Cycle Enhancement
    • Study performance requirements of assets, monitoring their health and lifestyle activities and highlighting the importance of sustainable asset management.
    • Develop skills in identifying asset service and performance requirements, assessing asset condition and performance, and identifying asset system failures and risks.
    • 20-credit module.
  • Introduction to Asset Management
    • Study the principles of asset management, including standards, impact of organisational context, different types of assets, legislation and sustainable development.
    • Develop skills in identifying constraints that affect asset management, classifying asset management systems and complying with relevant legislation standards.
    • 20-credit module.
  • Management and Planning
    • Study the management and planning of asset management projects, following standards, business ethics and data security.
    • Explore resource management and different types of collaborative working techniques.
    • Use information technology systems and processes for effective planning of asset management projects.
    • 20-credit module.
  • Strategic Asset Management and Decision-Making
    • Study the performance standards and measures, problem solving interventions for asset systems, asset costing and valuation, optioneering and cost-benefit analysis, and benchmarking for asset management.
    • Develop skills in identifying constraints that affect asset management, calculating life cycle costs, identifying inventories, using multi-criteria decision-making methods and decision support systems, continuous improvement techniques and interpreting and presenting data.
    • 20-credit module.
  • Work-Based Project
    • Develop skills in addressing asset management risks, problems or issues that need solving using pre-acquired skills from previous modules.
    • Identify a project which has real business benefit and work to produce a case which you could implement.

How You Learn

  • Modules are delivered through weekly online tutorials, supported by pre-session learning materials.
  • These may include recorded tutor videos, lecture notes, case studies and selected reading from a published list.
  • The Work-based Project module is supported by weekly online supervision meetings.
  • Preparation and supervisor introductions are arranged in advance.
  • Apprentices receive guided support to develop their project plan.
  • Each module runs over one semester.

How You Are Assessed

  • The apprentice is assessed using written and computer-based exams, presentations, and coursework including reports, reflective statements and independent/group project work.
  • Completion of the apprenticeship is also by end-point assessment (EPA) which looks at the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) developed to determine if the requirements of the standard have been met.
  • Please refer to the Asset Manager apprenticeship standard for further information on the KSBs that are assessed by each method and details of the EPA.

Entry Requirements

  • To be accepted on to a degree apprenticeship course you must have support from your employer and meet the course entry requirements.
  • The apprentice must have 64 points from any combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications, and a Level 2 in English and maths.
