Summer University

Overview

Our Summer University is an extraordinary opportunity to reinforce knowledge during the summer and, at the same time, live an international experience in Madrid, one of the most cosmopolitan and safest cities in Europe.


Who is it for?

Students with a previous base of modeling and animation, general knowledge of 3D techniques and some knowledge of 3D animation software – Rigging, ideally Autodesk Maya.


Program Details

VFX y Rigging para Animación y Videojuegos

This course consists of two modules:


  • Módulo 1. Iluminación y render de efectos visuales: Learn the processes, techniques, and tools for simulating effects: dynamics, particles, rigid body simulation, geometry breaks…, and work on their creation, lighting, and rendering using Side FX Houdini. Delve into one of the specialties with the highest demand for professionals in the animation and VFX industry.
  • Módulo 2. Rigging para animación y videojuegos: Work on the development of a rig, the weighting of a character, the creation of controllers that facilitate and allow the animation work in an agile and intuitive way, applying these concepts to the creation of characters for animation and video games, according to the techniques and procedures applied in both industries.

  • Duración: From July 5th to July 30th

  • Introduction to Houdini and procedural animation
    • Interface, nodes, and routes, scripting
    • The procedural paradigm
    • Modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering with Mantra
  • Dynamics, particles, and solid destruction
    • Procedural effects and dynamic simulation of particles
    • Rigid body simulation and fractures
Módulo 2
  • Rigging review of basic concepts
    • Nodal systems
    • Nomenclatures
    • Attributes, hierarchies, general editors
    • Positioning of joints and basic rig structures
  • Rigging and Skin
    • Rig Spine
    • Rig of limbs
    • Skin: weight painting, skin transfer
    • Introduction to facial rig
  • Application to the animation and video game industry
    • Particularities and conditions of the industry
    • Methodological differences
    • Adaptation of the character

Convalidaciones

Students who wish to receive credits for this program should contact their international office or the corresponding department of their university. The institution of origin will determine the assignment of credits for the student's participation in this program. U-tad provides an orientative guide in ECTS credits corresponding to the number of training hours, the detailed content of the same, as well as the student's grades.
