Overview
This course is for bright, motivated individuals who want to fast-track their career and become the Chartered Engineers of tomorrow. Apprentices will study a broad range of topics such as project management, mathematics, geotechnics, structural engineering, and safety and sustainable development.
Accreditations
- Level 6 Civil Engineer (degree) apprenticeship and Level 6 Civil Engineering Site Management (degree) apprenticeship: These degrees are accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) on behalf of the Engineering Council - for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
- Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician apprenticeship: This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) on behalf of the Engineering Council - for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
Entry Requirements
- Qualification: A Level, IB, BTEC Extended Diploma, T-Level
- Typical offer: ABB, 32/655, DDM, Distinction
- Required subjects: GCE AL Maths grade B and another science subject at grade B
- Contextual offers: BBC, GCE AL Maths grade B and another science subject at grade B
- GCSE: 4 or C, Grade 4/C in GCSE English language and Mathematics

How to Apply
This programme does not follow the standard UCAS application process. Apprentices can apply in addition to applying to any institution(s) through UCAS. To gain a place on this programme, applicants must either:
- Apply directly for a Level 6 Civil Engineering apprenticeship vacancy
- Already have a position or job offer from an engineering company willing to support their application
Funding
- Full programme cost: £27,000 or £29,000
- Employer funding: The employer fully covers the cost of the apprenticeship; apprentices do not pay for any of the eligible training costs
- Apprenticeship Levy funding: Employers who pay the Apprenticeship Levy will pay for the apprenticeship fees directly through that contribution
- Government contribution: Employers who do not pay the Levy will be able to claim 95 per cent of the cost of the apprenticeship from the Government

- Year 1: Core Engineering, Mathematics for Engineers, Professional Studies and Skills Development A
- Year 2: Basic Mechanics, Materials, Advanced Mathematics for Engineers, Professional Studies and Skills Development B
- Year 3: Structural Materials, Mechanics, Structures, Geotechnics 1, Construction Site Management
- Year 4: BIM and Temporary Works, Sustainable Development, Structural Concrete, Structural Engineering, Geotechnics 2
- Year 5: Individual Project, Conceptual Design of Buildings, Practical Hydraulic Engineering, Accounting and Company Finance
Learning
- Block release: Approximately 20 per cent of an apprentice's contractual working time is dedicated to study
- Study blocks: Comprise of lectures, seminars, and workshops
- Academic mentor: Apprentices will meet one-to-one with their academic mentor during and outside of blocks
