Program Overview


English and Hispanic Studies BA

Overview

This joint honours course combines the study of English language and literature with Hispanic Studies, allowing you to develop your skills in a language that will take you all over the world.


Course Structure

  • Year 1: You will take modules covering drama and performance, English language and applied linguistics, literature (from 1500 to the present), and medieval language and literature. You will also study Spanish language and culture, including an intensive beginners' course if you have little or no prior experience.
  • Year 2: You will continue to develop your language skills and explore the cultures and histories of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds. You will also take modules in English literature, including drama, poetry, and prose.
  • Year 3: You will spend your third academic year in Spain and/or Spanish America, studying at a university, working as a language teaching assistant, or undertaking a work placement.
  • Year 4: You will return to the UK and take advanced modules in Spanish language and culture, as well as English literature. You will also have the opportunity to write a dissertation on a topic of your choice.

Entry Requirements

  • A levels: ABB, including English and Spanish (or equivalent)
  • IB: 30 points overall, including 5 in English and 5 in Spanish (or equivalent)
  • GCSE: English grade 4 (C) or above

  • International students: £23,000 per year

  • Year Abroad: Reduced fees apply for students spending their year abroad in 2023 (Home/EU students: £1,385, International: 50% of the relevant international fee)
