How you learn
The course takes an active learning approach, encouraging you to develop innovative solutions to real-world construction challenges. You’ll engage in problem-based learning, interdisciplinary projects and live case studies, building your technical expertise and professional confidence.
New material is introduced through lectures and explored further in tutorials, seminars and group discussions. Site visits allow you to experience the construction industry first-hand, while guest speakers provide insight into current industry trends and challenges.
A key feature of the course is an international field trip, where you’ll work in interdisciplinary teams to complete a construction project in a foreign city. This experience mirrors real-world industry challenges to develop your professional skills, team collaboration and critical thinking.

Key themes
During the course you’ll undertake a range of construction project management modules and themes – from leadership and collaboration to management of health, safety, sustainability and risk. You’ll learn to consider the environmental, economic and social impact of projects, while ensuring all construction projects are planned, coordinated and delivered in accordance with the latest UK Health and Safety Legislation.
You’ll also work alongside other build-environment professionals, while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard software and the latest developments in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Work experience
You’ll have the opportunity to source a work placement for up to 12 months, where you’ll apply academic theory and your skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance your professional development and help you to make informed career choices after graduation.
Throughout your placement, you’ll be supported to reflect on your experience and contribution to the organisation you work for. You'll also share your progress and achievements with your Placement Academic Supervisor, as part of your final assessment.

Where will I study?
You study at City Campus through a structured mix of lectures, seminars and practical sessions as well as access to digital and online resources to support your learning.
Entry requirements
Minimum 2:2 degree or equivalent in any discipline.
We welcome applications from candidates who may not meet the exact academic entry requirements but have significant relevant experience, on application you will be referred to our course leader, who will evaluate your experience, this may involve an informal conversation either in person or by other media.
If English is not your first language you typically need an IELTS 6.5 overall score with a minimum of 6.0 in all other skills or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.5 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.
Fees and funding
Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2025/26 is £12,120 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. For this work experience route, your fees will be payable over two years, divided into two annual payments based on credits studied. The fee includes dedicated employability support to help you prepare for and secure work experience. It does not guarantee you a placement and if a placement is not secured the work experience fee will still be charged. If a placement is not secured you will transfer to the standard version of the course to complete your remaining credits, where the balance of your course fees will be due in year one in line with completing the course.
International students
Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting full-time study in 2025/26 is £19,225 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. For this work experience route, your fees will be payable over two years, divided into two annual payments based on credits studied. The fee includes dedicated employability support to help you prepare for and secure work experience. It does not guarantee you a placement and if a placement is not secured the work experience fee will still be charged. Postgraduate student loans
Up to £12,858 is available in 2025/26 for home students on most masters courses.
