Program Overview
CPD Adult Congenital Heart Disease: Care of the patient through their lifespan
Level 7 (postgraduate), 20 credits
Course aim
This module offers healthcare professionals the opportunity to enhance their skill sets and knowledge in relation to adult congenital heart disease and the care of patients with a congenital cardiac anomaly.
Course content
- Developmental anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system including:
- Embryological development of congenital heart defects (CHD)
- Pathophysiology and management of different congenital heart conditions
- Assessment and therapy strategies to minimise the long-term effects of CHD
- Healthcare and psycho-social implications - including aspects of the transition from paediatrics to adult care
- Patient perspective
- Ethical issues
Teaching and learning
1 week study block. Lectures comprise of face to taught, practical sessions and online learning.
Entry requirements
- Undergraduate degree
- Applicants should hold a BA/BSc (Hons) degree in a relevant subject at a 2:2 level or higher.
- We also welcome applications from those who can demonstrate appropriate professional registration and/or experience in a relevant clinical specialty.
Assessment
You will be assessed via a 4,500 word case report.
CPD award
This CPD has been validated as part of the advanced practice masters programme and is also offered as a standalone CPD.
