Course Overview
The Doctor of Professional Practice in Health (DPPH) is a part-time, five-year program designed for healthcare professionals seeking to advance their careers and contribute to the development of their field. The program is divided into three stages, with the first stage consisting of two taught modules and the second and third stages focusing on independent research and reflection.
Course Modules
Stage 1: Taught Modules
- Professional Identity, Theory, and Practice (30 credits): This year-long module explores professional identity in health practice, including discussions on role, values, and leadership strategies.
- Planning and Designing Your Research (30 credits): This year-long module extends knowledge around research and evidence, including a robust review of literature and a proposed plan for research.
Stage 2 and 3: Independent Study
- Thesis (240 credits): The thesis is an original research or service evaluation project that contributes to knowledge in the field of practice.
- Reflection (60 credits): This module provides the opportunity to critique professional learning and present reflections in an academic and professional context.
Your Learning Experience
The program uses a blended approach, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, and self-directed study. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) supports face-to-face delivery and online materials. Coursework includes oral presentations, written reports, reflection, thesis, and a viva voce.

Tuition Fees and Funding
- Fees: £3,937.50 for years one and two, £2,625 for years three and four, and £1,050 for year five.

Entry Requirements
- Qualification Requirements: 180 credits at FHEQ level 7, with a significant research element.
- Extra Requirements: All short-listed candidates must be interviewed.
- RPL: Consideration of prior learning will be undertaken by the University Recognition Group.
