English Foundation Program
Overview
The English Foundation Program (EFP) is designed to advance the English levels of students who need a half-point increase in their English language score to pursue a hospitality program. The program provides traditional English language education alongside the use of English in practical situations tailored to hospitality, ensuring added confidence in language skills.
Qualify for Study
The EFP benefits students by:
- Developing core English language skills to earn the IELTS/DELT scores required for hospitality study
- Reinforcing key academic and studying skills to prepare for tertiary-level studies
- Learning cultural and academic contexts of university study to fully benefit from a hospitality degree course
Program Details
The EFP is for:
- Incoming students from any SEG school who need to develop core English language skills, specifically to increase their required English language score for the DELT exam or IELTS exam
- Students who need or want extra practice with English language skills for internships and hospitality jobs
- Students who wish to reinforce key academic and studying skills to prepare for tertiary-level studies, and want to ease into the beginning of their studies
*EFP availability depends on meeting the minimum required number of students for each iteration.
Structure
- 10 Weeks Total of Study

What are the IELTS/DELT exams?
- IELTS stands for International English Language Test System and is recognized by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools, and immigration bodies around the world. The IELTS is graded on a scale from 1-9.
- The Derby English Language Test (DELT) is an online English test through the University of Derby and is also recognized as a metric for English ability and qualification to attend any school in Swiss Education Group.
Swiss Discovery
- During EFP, 2-3 weeks of Swiss Discovery is offered for students to relax and explore Switzerland at their own pace.
- Travel to different areas of Switzerland
- Experience living in abroad before semester starts
Availability and duration depends on the school of entry and the start date of each student.
Location
- The English Foundation Program and Immersion Foundation Program (IFP) are currently held at the Leysin campus of Swiss Hotel Management School.
EFP Next Intakes
- We recommend you apply 3 months in advance before your desired start date. If you need a visa, please be sure to allow enough time between the application and the start of the intake as it can take up to 12 weeks to process.
