Managing Strategy

This module develops critical analytical skills relevant to strategic management, exploring diverse perspectives and approaches. Students will be introduced to cognitive processes and core analytical tools underpinning organisational strategy management. The learning experience is enriched with a business reality simulation exercise, enabling students to apply their skills in a practical context. Alongside mastering tools and techniques, students will cultivate a critical understanding of the nature and limitations of business strategy, and the organisational dynamics involved in its development.

Sustainable Transport

This module provides an in-depth understanding of the issues involved in planning and managing transport systems, with a focus on sustainability and the transport sector’s relationship with society. Students will explore the impact of demographic, political, and environmental factors on the development of transport for both passenger and freight sectors. Key challenges faced by principal modes of transport, including rail, maritime, and road, are critically analysed. The module incorporates theories in transport management and practical aspects of the UK and European transport systems, supported by case studies from both developed and developing countries.

Contemporary Transportation & Logistics

This module develops students’ critical understanding of both academic and practical approaches to contemporary issues in transportation and logistics. It explores current developments in the field, addressing challenges and advancements within local and global contexts.

Advanced Project Management

This module equips students with advanced skills, knowledge, and capabilities to effectively manage, analyse, and critique projects across various business sectors. It focuses on developing the expertise needed to recover failed or stalled projects by critically analysing their causes and identifying appropriate recovery strategies.

Thematic Independent Study

This module allows undergraduate students to conclude their degrees with a self-directed major project, combining academic knowledge from their studies with a focus on future employability. Under the guidance of a personal tutor, students will design and develop two extended essays on the same or related topics, drawing on relevant literature and secondary data without conducting primary research. As part of the assessment, students will defend one of their essays through a viva voce examination and submit a reflective commentary, demonstrating their critical evaluation and analytical skills.
