Program Overview


M.S. in Civil Engineering

MSOE’s Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCVE) program is designed to equip students with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary for professional practice.


Program Overview

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering offers students the opportunity to gain depth in one of three areas of specialization: construction management (ConM), environmental and water resources engineering (EWRE), and structural engineering (StrE).


Specializations

  • Construction Management (ConM): This specialty offers a blend of coursework emphasizing advanced topics in construction management, supplemented by business administration courses, and marketing and strategic management principles.
  • Environmental and Water Resources Engineering (EWRE): This specialty provides students with advanced coursework in facilities planning, environmental law, and life cycle assessment.
  • Structural Engineering (StrE): This specialty focuses on topics in the analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and bridges.

Curriculum Format

Each student must complete a sequence of capstone courses. There are two options for the capstone activity:


  • Option 1: Completion of a seven-credit, two-semester Capstone Project sequence (CAE 7810, CVE 7901, and CVE 7902) in addition to eight civil engineering courses (24 credits) to fulfill the 31-credit requirement.
  • Option 2: Completion of a four-credit, one-semester Capstone Report sequence (CAE 7810 and CVE 7901) in addition to nine civil engineering courses (27 credits) to fulfill the 31-credit requirement.

Admissions Process

  1. Submit application online.
  2. Submit supporting documents to admissions counselor via email or mail.
  3. Completed file reviewed by program director for admission decision.
  4. Upon acceptance, submit your enrollment deposit to secure your spot in the program.
  5. Get access to your myMSOE account and MSOE email.
  6. Admissions registers you for appropriate coursework and sends schedule when finalized by the Registrar’s office.
  7. You are officially an MSOE Raider!
