Overview
The Community Services program at Herzing College is designed to prepare students for a career helping people in need. The program covers the fundamentals of social work, including the Canadian social welfare system, psychology, sociology, and human development. Students will learn about the effects of addiction, mental health disorders, and other challenges, as well as interviewing and counseling techniques.
Career Outlook
There is a steady demand for Community Services Workers (CSWs) across Canada. Successful graduates can find career opportunities at hospitals, halfway houses, detox centers, residential care facilities, outpatient clinics, shelters, youth centers, and correctional facilities. Job titles may include Child/Youth Worker, Gerontology Aide, Addictions Counsellor, Family Service Worker, Crisis Intervention Worker, Women's Shelter Worker, Aboriginal Outreach Worker, Community Development Worker, Mental Health Aide, and Residential Support Worker.
