Ethnic Studies

Overview

A minor in Ethnic Studies prepares students for careers that actively promote a more equitable and just society through analysis of culture, race, and ethnicity in global, national, and regional history and the present. The minor empowers students to understand and address issues of inequality in a wide range of professional areas, including government, non-profit, corporations, media, and academic institutions.

Practicum

Our students must complete at least a term of practicum experience in local institutions and the community before they graduate. Practicum activities are a great way to gain hands-on experience and build a portfolio you can use on the job market.


Land Acknowledgement

Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
