Module Overview
The Clinical Leadership and Management for Practice Enhancement for Nursing and Midwifery module is designed to enable nurses and midwives to apply critical theoretical insights to the enhancement of nursing and midwifery practice. This module aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead and manage practice innovations in nursing and midwifery.
Module Objective
The module objective is to enable the nurse and midwife to apply critical theoretical insights to the enhancement of Nursing and Midwifery practice. On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Critically review the process of quality improvement and its application to clinical practice
- Conduct an audit on an aspect relevant to clinical practice
- Disseminate results to clinical teams in conjunction with Quality Office, Director of Nursing, Midwifery or Quality and clinical Team
- Identify actions required to close the quality loop
- Critically reflect on the process of enhancing the contribution of nursing to the delivery of patient care
- Develop and demonstrate critical faculties through advanced reflection skills
- Critically reflect on the process of introducing and evaluating nursing/midwifery care initiatives at ward, unit or inter-departmental level
- Evaluate and reflect on the effectiveness of various nursing strategies which can be used to advance practice
- Demonstrate vision of professional practice that can be developed beyond scope of practice
Module Content
The module content includes:
- Practice enhancement in nursing and midwifery
- Organisation and management skills in nursing and midwifery
- Continuous quality improvement
- Stakeholder perspectives on enhanced standards of nursing or midwifery
- Standard setting and regulatory compliance
- Performance monitoring
- Risk assessment and management
- Patient/client satisfaction with nursing or midwifery services
- Quality/safety and equity of provision
- Clinical nursing or midwifery quality care metrics
- Nursing or midwifery audit and change management
Teaching Method
The teaching method includes:
- 10 hours of blended learning lectures/workshops (face-to-face)
- 90 hours of online learning, including discussion board preparation and participation, required reading, assignment preparation and submission, and self-directed learning
Assessment
The assessment for this module includes:
- E-tivities: Clinical Audit Proposal and HSELand Clinical Audit Module (80 marks)
- Presentation: Poster Presentation (120 marks)
Requirements
The requirements for this module include:
- Open to registered health care professionals in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, and Clinical Therapies or other allied disciplines
- Applicants who are practising health care professionals must provide evidence of current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body
- Applicants from allied disciplines must provide evidence of professional certification, where appropriate
- Applicants who are under 23 years of age must satisfy the minimum entry requirements as for the Degrees in Nursing or Midwifery

The fee for this module is 900.
