Program Overview
Introduction
Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and the human mind. At Middlesex University Dubai, we offer a solid grounding in modern psychology – a body of theoretical and practical knowledge concerning human behaviour and experiences. The BSc Psychology programme aims to provide students with a robust foundation in psychological theory and research methodologies, empowering them to engage in rigorous inquiry and analysis. Additionally, it allows them to become well-versed in fundamental principles of different applied and research-based areas, therefore, widening the scope for further studies within the broader psychology domain.
The programme will foster key critical skills; it will encourage students to evaluate evidence, challenge assumptions, and communicate effectively. Graduates will acquire a range of skills in data analysis and acquisition, digital literacy, and technological agility. Graduates of the programme will be eligible to undertake various specialised postgraduate training programmes across different psychology specialisations, i.e., counselling, business, forensic, education, health, and sports.
Why Study BSc Honours Psychology?
The single BSc Psychology honours provide an opportunity to delve into the science behind human behaviour, explore the foundations of psychology, learn with experts (academics and practitioners), and provide you with the first step in your journey towards careers in specialist areas of psychology. Graduates of this programme will be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartership with the British Psychology Society, which is important for those who wish to pursue further training in psychology in the UK. This programme is designed for those who are interested in various specialist fields of psychology, and who would like all their undergraduate modules to be psychology-focused throughout their degree. It is important to note that as a graduate of this programme, you will not be qualified to practice as either a counsellor or psychologist, but you will be eligible and well-prepared to undertake specialised postgraduate training.

Teaching
Classes are held at Dubai Knowledge Park campus Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5:30pm. No classes are scheduled on Fridays between 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Occasional sessions may be scheduled over weekends or holiday periods, and you can expect plenty of notice for these. Attending scheduled weekly classes is an important requirement for completion of the programme.
Students will be involved in a range of learning, teaching, and assessment approaches. Such approaches aim to put students at the centre of their own learning so that they are engaged and involved in all aspects. The programme requires active involvement and collaboration with fellow students, including working and learning as part of small groups. Learning activities may occur both within and outside the classroom.
Students will be supported by technology, and faculty will use existing and emerging tech to engage with students. The programme may be facilitated using a variety of online tools (My Learning on UniHub, podcasts, wikis, etc.). By engaging with e-learning, students will be developing additional skills highly valued by employers. These include working flexibly, communication, understanding of IT, and team working.
Career Opportunities
Equipped with a wide range of academic, practical, counselling and research skills, graduates may take up roles in various clinics and organisations related to the counselling and health professions or continue their studies to specialise in specific areas of interest within Psychology or the Social Sciences. Students who have studied Psychology can seek British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation. Postgraduate study and training are essential for those wishing to pursue the Chartered Psychology careers including counselling; clinical; organisational; educational and forensic psychology. Our Careers and Employability Service will offer students a range of support throughout their studies, and this continues after graduation.
