Program Overview


Master of Science - Management Information Systems

The Master of Science - Management Information Systems (MS MIS) program prepares graduates for professional careers in the management of information technology (IT). The MS MIS focuses on the application of technology to help achieve organizational goals and solve business problems. MIS students earn competency in IT, embedded in a business context, that provides them with well-rounded preparation for occupations in high demand. Recent graduates are pursuing careers in a variety of roles, such as business analyst, systems analyst, security analyst, IT manager, and systems administrator.


About the Program

The MS MIS has been certified as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) - Designated Degree Program by the Department of Education and maintained by the Department of Homeland Security. Under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, international students who graduate from colleges and universities in the United States are able to remain in the country and receive training through work experience for up to 12 months. Students who graduate from a designated STEM degree program can remain for an additional 17 months on an OPT STEM extension. The MS MIS program code is 11.1005.

Graduate College Admission Requirements

  1. Completed application and non-refundable application fee.
  2. Bachelor's Degree You must hold a four-year baccalaureate from a regionally accredited institution or an approved equivalent.
  3. Grade Point Average You must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75 (4.00=A) for the bachelor's degree or a minimum 3.00 (4.00=A) for the last two years (60 semester credits).
  4. All applicants are required to submit an unofficial transcript from each postsecondary institution attended, showing all degrees and coursework, the dates awarded, and grades received. Official transcripts required upon admission.

Department Admission Requirements

  1. Evidence of having been awarded the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with an overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.00 on the four-point scale;
  2. Two letters of recommendation submitted in sealed envelopes or uploaded through the Grad Rebel Gateway application system.
  3. Statement of purpose that describes why you want to join the program and your professional goals, relevant to this program.
  4. Updated resume, which includes academic, professional and other relevant experience.
  5. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores above 550, or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) equivalent, will be given preference.

Degree Requirements

  • Completion of a minimum of 36 credits of MIS courses.
  • A grade point average of at least 3.00 for course work required for the degree.
  • Only up to 6 credits can be counted towards the degree from courses with less than a B- grade (but no lower than a C).

Graduation Requirements

  • Students may apply for graduation up to two semesters prior to completing their degree requirements.
  • All required forms must be submitted to the graduate college via the Grad Rebel Gateway.
