Program Description
The School of Music and Dance’s music education program is among the most comprehensive and innovative in the western United States, and the only one in Oregon to offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Faculty members provide expertise in band, choral, elementary general, and string music education. Graduate degree programs are designed for students interested in advancing their skills or preparing for careers in higher education, and provide diverse and rigorous course work that emphasizes research. Music education faculty members publish research in top-tier journals, author books, contribute to chapters in anthologies, and present and conduct at regional, national, and international venues.

Program-Specific Application Requirements
- Résumé detailing evidence of at least three years of successful, full-time music teaching experience in elementary or secondary school, or both.
- Statement of Professional and Personal Goals
- Scholarly writing sample
- Copies of concert or recital programs you have conducted. Elementary/General applicants may substitute a unit plan or four (4) lesson plan series.
- Writing Prompt/Essay: Paper should be no more than six typed pages, with one-inch margins, double-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman preferred.

- What do you think are the most important issue for the future?
- How do you envision becoming involved in leadership activities that address these issues?
- How will your study here enhance your goals toward leadership and research in music education?
- Of the issues, problems and trends currently discussed in the field of music education:
- Audition Recording for “Choir” or “Elementary General” applicants only. Submit video of yourself performing two contrasting music etudes, solos, or movements.
- Recent video recording of K-12 music teaching and ensemble performances
- Interview with the music education faculty either remotely or in person.
- Three letters of recommendation
- Higher TOEFL/IELTS than UO minimums
