UGCert Egyptology
Overview
The Undergraduate Certificate in Egyptology is a three-year online program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of ancient Egyptian history and civilization. The program is led by internationally recognized scholars Dr. Joyce Tyldesley and Dr. Nicky Nielsen.
Entry Requirements
- Full entry requirements are available on the University's website.
- Applications for the 2026 entry close on September 12, 2025.
- Only applications with the required information in the personal statement will be considered.
Application and Selection
- To apply, select Academic Year 2025/6 and include answers to two questions in the personal statement section:
- Why does Egyptology interest you?
- How do you decide what to believe when encountering new information about Ancient Egypt?
Course Details
- The program covers the history and civilization of ancient Egypt from circa 3100 BCE to the Arab Conquest.
- Students learn to use source materials in libraries and museum collections and translate simple hieroglyphic texts.
- All course content is delivered online, allowing students to study from anywhere in the world.
Fees
- Fees for entry in 2026 have not yet been set. For entry in 2025, the tuition fees were £2,600 per annum for home students.
- As a non-degree-level course, this program is not eligible for Student Finance England funding.
Additional Expenses
- There are no compulsory books to buy. All compulsory texts will be made available to students as part of the course at no extra cost.
- A suggested reading list will be provided, but students are not expected to read everything on the list.
