How to calculate your entry score

GCE A Levels

Total score by achieving either:


  • A maximum of the best 3 A Level subjects completed within two years^. In the event where only 1 A Level subject has been completed (and no other A Level subjects have been completed), 2 AS Level subjects can be counted in place of 1 A Level subject however the AS Level subject must not be in the same subject area as the A Level subjects included in the calculation.
    OR
  • A minimum of the best 2 A Level subjects completed within two years^ plus the best 2 AS Level subjects. The AS Level subjects however must not be in the same subject area as the A Level subjects included in the calculation.

^Subjects completed within two years may include more than one sitting. For example, subjects completed in June 2019 until June 2021 are acceptable.


Additional guidelines:


  • Score grades as follows:
    • A Level subjects: A(a) = 5, A(a) = 5, B(b) = 4, C(c) = 3, D(d) = 2, E(e) = 1, U = 0.
    • AS Level subjects: a(a) =2.5, b(b) =2, c(c) =1.5, d(d) =1, e(e) =0.5, U = 0.
  • N (Narrow failure) & U (Unclassified) results are not to be included in the calculation.
  • A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving A* in an A Level Subject.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

  • Total points as awarded on the official final IB Diploma Programme Results issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
  • The Diploma Certificate issued by the IBO must also be provided.

Advanced Placement

  • Total of the best 2 Advanced Placement examinations as awarded on the Student Score Report* issued by the College Board.
  • Minimum accepted score in each AP examination is 3.

ACT

The final average calculated by adding the best four section scores achieved in all ACT test attempted for the Math, Science, English and Reading sections, then dividing the total by four and rounding to the nearest whole number, as awarded on the Student Report* issued by ACT.

SAT - Total score out of 1600

Total score by adding the best section scores achieved in ‘Evidence Based Reading and Writing’ and ‘Math’ as awarded on the SAT Score Report* issued by the College Board.


All SAT examinations submitted to Monash University will be considered when calculating the entry score, provided the SAT is marked out of 1600.


Pearson International Advanced Levels

Total score by achieving either:

English entry requirements

All Monash undergraduate courses require you to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:


English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent)

You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level (score requirements also apply). Acceptable English subjects for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and IB Diploma Programme are detailed in the prerequisite subject requirements section below. English subjects completed in other qualifications may be accepted and are assessed on a case by case basis when you apply.


Language of instruction

You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed half a year of full time study (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points) at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher (or equivalent) at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication and assessment for all aspects of study for the whole of the educational institution.


You may be required to submit documentary evidence in the form of an official letter from the institution at which the study was completed. This document must be written and signed by the institution’s registrar (or other authorised person of the institution).

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
