Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Entry Requirements (International students):
    • An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with minimum overall WAM of 75.
    • Applicants with an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with an overall WAM between 70 and 75 will be considered upon satisfactory completion of an interview.
    • Applicants must have completed 48 credit points of studies and obtained a distinction grade average (75%) or above in 24 credit points at level 3 within their chosen Honours area of study.
  • Double degree students: Applicants who are enrolled in a Monash double degree course and who have not yet completed the requirements for the two degrees, may be eligible to enrol in this honours program once they have completed 144 points of study, including the normal requirements for the Bachelor degree containing the intended honours area of study.
  • Alternative qualifications and prerequisites: For other domestic and international qualification entry requirements and scores for this course use the study credit and admissions eligibility search.
  • English entry requirements:
    • Level A: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50
    • TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21
    • Other approved English tests (minimum entry scores apply)
  • University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.

Course Structure

  • This course consists of a combination of coursework and research.
  • In the coursework component, you will develop advanced theoretical and/or technical knowledge of your music specialisation and appropriate research methodologies.
  • In the research component, you will plan and execute a research project in your area of music specialisation under the individual guidance of an academic supervisor.
  • Ethnomusicology and musicology students produce a thesis.
  • Music composition and Creative music technology students produce two portfolios of original creative work and an exegesis.
  • Music Performance students will produce two recitals and program notes.

Enrolment Obligations
