Course Details

The Educational Research course is a graduate certificate program designed for students with a first qualification in the education discipline who want to undertake a graduate research degree such as a research masters or a PhD, but do not meet the eligibility requirements of previous research experience or feel that they do not have sufficient research experience.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry to this course, you need to satisfy the following entrance requirements:


Minimum Entry Requirements (International students)

  • Qualifications: An Australian four year bachelor degree (or equivalent) in education or a related discipline, including but not limited to TESOL, counselling, teaching and the social sciences with an average mark of at least 65%.
  • English entry requirements:
    • IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50
    • TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21
  • University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.

Extra Requirements

You will need to include a detailed resume listing qualifications, work experience and details of two recent referees.


Course Structure

The course consists of two units, which will orient you to educational research, or education related areas such as TESOL, counselling and the social sciences. Your project will provide you with an understanding of educational research approaches and methodologies. You will apply this understanding in the implementation of a research project. It is through this project, leading to a research report of 10,000 words, that you will demonstrate your capacity to undertake and communicate high level research synthesis, analysis and evaluation.

The total fees for 2025 for this 24 credit point (6 month full-time) course are: A$19,950


The equivalent fee per 48 credit points representing a standard full-time course load for 2025 would be A$39,900

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. See standard 8.19 and 8.20 of National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.
