International Relations and Journalism - A6011

Overview

The Master of International Relations and Journalism is a double degree course that provides a comprehensive introduction to the nature of the international political system and some of the key issues in contemporary international relations, as well as an entry-level qualification for a professional journalism career.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry to this course, you need to satisfy the following entrance requirements:


  • Minimum Entry Requirements (International students):
    • Qualifications: An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a minimum credit (60%) average, or an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a minimum pass (50%) average in both qualifications.
    • Cognate disciplines: Humanities or social sciences
    • English entry requirements:
      • IELTS (Academic): 7.0 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5 and Speaking 6.5
      • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 58, Reading 58, Speaking 58 and Writing 58
      • TOEFL Internet-based test: 94 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20 and Writing 24
    • University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia

Course Structure

This double degree course includes all the features of the component degree courses, except electives may be reduced or redirected. You will complete:


  • Part A. International relations studies: These studies draw on best practices within the broad realm of international relations practice and research, exploring the security, ethical, and economic dimensions of international relations.
  • Part B. Journalism studies: These studies will introduce you to journalism studies at graduate level, providing a solid foundation in all production technologies - print, video, and online - in metropolitan, regional, and international contexts.
  • Part C. Applied studies: Select from a range of options designed to enhance specific knowledge and skills in industry and related professional fields.

Fees

Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$43,400.


Scholarships

We offer over 360 types of scholarships, valued at up to $280,000. Some scholarships offer one-off payments while others continue for the length of your course.


Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
