Information Technology - C6001
Overview
The Master of Information Technology is a postgraduate degree that aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to design and build innovative IT-based solutions. The course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and is designed for students from both IT and non-IT backgrounds.
Course Details
- Location: On-campus at Clayton: Full time
- Duration: 1.5 or 2 years full-time depending on prior qualifications
- Start date: First Semester (February), Second Semester (July), November
- Qualification: Master of Information Technology

Entry Requirements
- Minimum Entry Requirements (International students):
- Entry level 1: An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) not necessarily in IT, with at least a 60% average
- Entry level 2: An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline or major in IT including computing, computer science or a technical information technology field, with completed studies in java and python programming, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems and networks, and databases with at least a 60% average
- English entry requirements:
- Level A: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0
- Level A: Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50
- Level A: TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21
- University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia

Making the Application

- Current Monash students: Apply for an internal transfer directly to the Faculty
Fees
- International fee: Fees are per 48 credit points which represents a standard full-time course load for a year. The fees for 2025 are: A$53,900
- Scholarships: We offer over 360 types of scholarships, valued at up to $280,000
Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.

This course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). This means you’ll automatically be eligible to become a member, opening doors to invaluable networking and professional development opportunities.
Outcomes of the Master of Information Technology
Through the course, you’ll learn how to:
- design and build innovative IT-based solutions, applying problem-solving skills and sound theoretical knowledge
- critically review and synthesise theories and techniques in IT
- adapt to future changes in the IT industry by using and extending advanced techniques to problem-solve
- with scientific rigour, evaluate the application and extension of IT theories and techniques
- assess and implement industry-standard tools and methods for building complicated software systems
- communicate effectively and convincingly with stakeholders with a diverse range of backgrounds, technical and non-technical
- carefully assess, document and communicate ethical, legal and social issues in IT - investigate IT problems through independent research and a research thesis, or by using research methods for academic or professional purposes
