The Master of Applied Econometrics and Master of Advanced Finance is a double degree program designed for finance professionals seeking to progress their career pathways in quantitative finance. This two-year program advances training in econometrics and quantitative analysis to solve finance and economic challenges.

Entry Requirements
To be considered for entry to this course, you must satisfy the following entrance requirements:
- Minimum Entry Requirements (International students):
- An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a major or minor in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and must have passed a 1st year statistics or mathematics unit or equivalent.
- An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and having passed the level I CFA examination or equivalent membership of a recognised professional finance program.
- English entry requirements:
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0
- Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50
- TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21
- University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.
Course Structure
The Master of Applied Econometrics is structured in three parts: Part A. Advanced preparatory, Part B. Mastery knowledge, and Part C. Electives. In the double degree course, you complete:
- Part A. Advanced preparatory: These studies will introduce you to econometrics at advanced undergraduate and graduate level, and are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.
- Part B. Mastery knowledge: These studies will develop your capacity as a critical and creative professional who is able to apply your knowledge of a specialised area to provide discipline-based solutions.
- Part C. Electives: You will complete electives from the following themes:
- Macro and financial econometrics
- Micro and health econometrics
- Data analytics for energy and climate
The Master of Advanced Finance is structured in two parts: Part A. Mastery knowledge and Part B. Electives. In the double degree course, you complete:
- Part A. Mastery knowledge: These units will develop your understanding of the finance discipline and will enable you to provide discipline-based solutions within a business, professional or public context.
- Part B. Electives: You will complete electives from the Master of Advanced Finance.
Alternative Exits
You may be eligible to exit the double degree program and graduate with either a Master of Advanced Finance or a Master of Applied Econometrics after one and a half years, depending on the units studied.
Fees
Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$56,800.
Scholarships
We offer over 360 types of scholarships, valued at up to $280,000. Some scholarships offer one-off payments while others continue for the length of your course.
Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
