Overview

This 2-day program is for people interested in qualitative research and its application in implementation research or other projects. Participants will learn or enhance their skills and knowledge in qualitative study design, data collection methods, and analysis broadly, but with an emphasis placed on how it intersects with implementation science. The course is suitable for both beginners and experienced qualitative researchers. It will be of interest to students, researchers, academics, clinicians, and anyone seeking to apply these methods.

At a Glance

  • Fees:
    • A$600 for both days (online component and in-person workshop day)
    • A$99 for online only
  • There will be no cost for MCHRI PhD students. A 15% discount will be offered for non-MCHRI PhD students

Program Details

This program is divided into two integral components: a day in-person exploring the foundations of qualitative research and implementation science followed by an online workshop focused on the application of qualitative research, methods, and analysis and how these are applied in implementation research and projects. Each component is designed to provide a rich learning experience tailored to the needs of participants.

Participants will develop understandings about the key concepts and frameworks/models in implementation science and qualitative research and how they can be used and applied in qualitative research design, methods, and analysis. Participants will leave the course equipped with knowledge and skills to drive quality in the planning and practice of qualitative research and projects using implementation science.

Course Content

The course will cover:

  • Qualitative study design considerations in implementation context
  • Selecting implementation and theoretical frameworks for healthcare improvement projects
  • Understanding diverse ways to apply frameworks in qualitative research
  • Qualitative data collection methods
  • How to analyze qualitative data in implementation research and projects
  • Engaging stakeholders in qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Meeting quality criteria in reporting and practice

This practical, interactive course will use published studies to explain good practices in qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Delivery

The program will be delivered over 2 days:

  • Day 1 (In-person at Monash Centre for Health Research & Implementation): Introduction to qualitative research and methods and an overview of implementation science
  • Day 2 (Online): Building on the foundations of Day 1, focusing on greater depth on the application of qualitative research and methods and analysis and how these methods are applied in implementation research and projects

Attendees have the option of attending Day 2 only of the program, depending on their level of experience.
