Engineering and Pharmaceutical science is a unique and rare double degree. This degree produces professionals capable of covering the full spectrum of the pharmaceutical product design and development process.

  • Higher education:
    • Applicants with an achieved ATAR of less than 80.00 or equivalent need to have completed one year of equivalent full-time study load (1 EFTSL) or 48 credit points of bachelor level study with a minimum 70% average.
    • Applicants with an achieved ATAR of above 80.00 or equivalent need to have completed six months of equivalent full-time study load (0.5 EFTSL) or 24 credit points of bachelor level study with a minimum 70% average.

    • Language of instruction: You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed half a year of full-time study (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points) at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher (or equivalent) at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication and assessment for all aspects of study for the whole of the educational institution.

  • Inherent requirements:
    • To complete your degree, you will need to demonstrate that you have the abilities, knowledge, and skills to achieve specific core learning outcomes, these are called inherent requirements.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is a specialist course that develops through four themes that combine to underpin engineering practice: Engineering fundamentals and breadth knowledge, engineering design, engineering discipline knowledge and applications, and professional practice.

• A. Engineering fundamentals and breadth study: These will develop your understanding of natural and physical sciences, mathematics, numerical analysis, statistics, and computer and information sciences that underpin all engineering disciplines.
• B. Engineering design: This will develop the engineering techniques, tools and resources for the conduct, design and management of engineering design processes and projects, both in the industrial setting and in the development of research experiments.
• C. Engineering knowledge and application: This will provide in-depth knowledge of the specific engineering methods of a branch of engineering, and will integrate the specific engineering methods and discipline knowledge into practice. You will develop skills to identify and apply knowledge of contextual factors impacting the engineering discipline. Additionally, your studies will focus on your understanding and application of the scope, principles, norms, accountabilities and bounds of contemporary engineering practice in your discipline.
• D. Professional practice: This will develop your skills in readiness for the engineering workplace. You will develop skills in effective team membership and team leadership, the use and management of commercially relevant data, and the legal responsibilities of engineers. This study will integrate the theme 'Engineering knowledge and application' with your specialist field of engineering.

The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is a specialist course that develops through three themes. The first two, foundation science studies and pharmaceutical science studies culminate in an applied project.

• Part A. Enabling science studies: Enabling studies in bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, physical chemistry and physiology will underpin further studies in the degree. It will also provide an introduction to the key areas of scientific communication and practice and scientific research methodology.
• Part B. Pharmaceutical science: This will provide you with practical and theoretical skills and knowledge. You will learn to develop, apply and communicate the concepts and theoretical frameworks.
• Part C. Applied project: The studies in parts A. and B. culminate in a major research project or industry placement.

Fees and Scholarships

• International fee: $56,300 per 48 credit points (subject to change annually)

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. See standard 8.19 and 8.20 of National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.

• Current Monash students: You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.
