Program Overview


Global Studies and Information Technology

The Bachelor of Global Studies and Bachelor of Information Technology is a double degree course that allows students to combine their international communication skills with technical expertise to shape and manage current and emerging technologies. This course leads to two separate degrees: the Bachelor of Global Studies and the Bachelor of Information Technology.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry into this course, students must satisfy the following requirements:


  • Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, students must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require students to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
  • Additional requirements: English language requirements and prerequisite subject requirements must also be met.

English Language Requirements

All Monash undergraduate courses require students to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:


  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent): Students can meet English entry requirements if they have completed an English subject in their prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level.
  • Language of instruction: Students can meet English entry requirements if they have completed half a year of full-time study at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication, and assessment for all aspects of study.
  • English tests: If students have not met English entry requirements as outlined above, Monash accepts the following English tests where the entry scores for this course are as follows:
    • IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0, and Speaking 6.0.
    • TOEFL iBT: 79 overall, with minimum scores: Listening 12, Reading 13, Writing 21, and Speaking 18.
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 overall, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Writing 50, and Speaking 50.

Prerequisite Subject Requirements

Students must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements for this course:


  • English: VCE: Units 3 and 4 - English (EAL) with a study score of 25 or English (Other) with a study score of 25. IB Diploma Programme: Standard Level - English A: Literature, English A: Language and Literature, Literature and Performance, English AB, or English B with a score of 4. Higher Level - English A: Literature, English A: Language and Literature, or English B with a score of 3.
  • Maths: VCE: Units 1 and 2 - any Mathematics. IB Diploma Programme: Standard Level - Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches with a score of 3. Higher Level - Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches with a score of 3.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Global Studies is a specialist course structured in three parts:


  • Part A. Global studies core: Students will compare and contrast a range of global challenges and solutions in different historical, linguistic, cultural, and geographical settings.
  • Part B. Global studies specialist knowledge: Students will gain in-depth knowledge of a specific facet or facets of global studies through units grounded in a wide variety of humanities and social science disciplines.

The Bachelor of Information Technology is a comprehensive course structured in three equal parts:


  • Part A. Information technology specified study: This will provide students with foundation skills and knowledge for their IT education and ensure a breadth of understanding of IT and its applications in organisations and society.
  • Part B. Information technology listed major: This will provide students with a focused program of study that will develop their expertise in one area of information technology.

Fees

Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$52,400 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.


Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
