Program Overview


Introduction to the Commerce and Economics Double Degree

The Commerce and Economics double degree is a comprehensive program that combines the study of commerce and economics, providing students with a broad foundation in both fields. This double degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and analytical thinking required to succeed in a rapidly changing business environment.


Program Structure

The double degree course is structured in three equal parts:


  • Part A: Commerce specified study, which provides a broad foundation for the study of commerce and exposes students to several commerce disciplines.
  • Part B: Commerce listed major (excludes Economics), which provides a focused program of study that develops students' expertise in one discipline area.
  • Part C: Capstone experience, which consolidates the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the study of the specialization.

Commerce Component

The Bachelor of Commerce is a comprehensive course that develops through the themes of foundation commerce knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge, and elective breadth/depth study. Students will complete:


  • Part A: Commerce specified study, which contributes breadth to their knowledge of commerce and addresses the graduate course outcomes.
  • Part B: Commerce listed major (excludes Economics), which develops students' expertise in one discipline area.

Economics Component

The Bachelor of Economics is a comprehensive course that develops through the themes of foundation commerce knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge, capstone experience, and elective breadth/depth study. Students will complete:


  • Part A: Foundation commerce knowledge, which provides a comprehensive study of economics and econometrics disciplines and their impact on multi-discipline decision-making in organizations.
  • Part B: Specialist discipline knowledge, which develops students' capacity as critical and creative professionals who can apply their knowledge of a specialized area to provide discipline-based solutions to commerce and economic policy.
  • Part C: Capstone experience, which consolidates the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the study of the specialization.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for entry into this course, students must satisfy all of the following requirements:


  • Minimum age requirements: Students must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrolment.
  • Academic entry requirements: Students must have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
  • English entry requirements: Students must satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:
    • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent)
    • Language of instruction
    • English tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
  • Prerequisite subject requirements: Students must have previously studied and achieved required Australian level standards in specific subjects (e.g., English, Maths).

International Qualifications

The entry requirements for international students are as follows:


  • Secondary education: Students must have completed a secondary education qualification equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification.
  • Post-secondary qualifications: Students must have completed a post-secondary qualification equivalent to an Australian diploma or higher.
  • English language requirements: Students must satisfy English language requirements as specified above.

Fees

The fees for this course are subject to change annually. The current fee is A$53,200 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.


Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
