Program Overview


Marketing and Media Communication

The Bachelor of Marketing and Media Communication is a double degree that develops through the themes of foundation business knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge, and capstone experience. This course enables students to study complementary subjects to further enhance their employability and develop core skills in marketing and media communication, preparing them for today's media world.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry into this course, students must satisfy all of the following requirements:


  • Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, students must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require students to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
  • Additional requirements: Prerequisite subjects and English entry requirements must be met.

Prerequisite Subjects

Students must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements for this course:


  • English: VCE: Score of 25 in Units 3 and 4 of English (EAL) or English (Other), or IB Diploma Programme: Score of 4 in Standard Level English A: Literature, English A: Language and Literature, Literature and Performance, English AB, or English B.
  • Maths: VCE: Score of 22 in Units 3 and 4 of Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, or General Mathematics, or IB Diploma Programme: Score of 4 in Standard Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches.

English Entry Requirements

All Monash undergraduate courses require students to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:


  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent): Students can meet English entry requirements if they have completed an English subject in their prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level.
  • Language of instruction: Students can meet English entry requirements if they have completed half a year of full-time study (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points) at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher (or equivalent) at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication, and assessment for all aspects of study for the whole of the educational institution.
  • English tests: If students have not met English entry requirements as outlined above, Monash accepts the following English tests where the entry scores for this course are as follows:
    • IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0, and Speaking 6.0.
    • TOEFL iBT: Total score of 79 with minimum scores: Listening 12, Reading 13, Speaking 18, and Writing 21.
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): Overall score of 58 with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50, and Writing 50.

Bachelor of Marketing

The Bachelor of Marketing is a specialist course that develops through the themes of foundation business knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge, and capstone experience.


  • Part A. Foundation business knowledge: This will provide students with a study of marketing and the impact they have on decision-making in organisations.
  • Part B. Specialist discipline knowledge: These studies will develop students' capacity as critical and creative professionals who are able to apply their knowledge of marketing to provide discipline-based solutions for business.
  • Part C. Capstone experience: The capstone unit will consolidate students' knowledge and skills acquired through the study of their specialisation and provide experience in multi-disciplinary processes and decision-making.

Bachelor of Media Communication

The Bachelor of Media Communication through three themes that combine to underpin media communication practice: Part A. Strategic knowledge, Part B. Practical and professional skills, and Part C. Collaboration and leadership. Part D involves free elective studies.


  • Part A. Strategic knowledge: These studies build students' competence in analysing and understanding the current state and past developments in media communication locally and globally.
  • Part B. Practical and professional skills: This involves developing students' competencies in linking knowledge and media practice in professional contexts.
  • Part C. Collaboration and leadership: This involves competencies necessary for students to work in teams and in different knowledge communities and media communication professional settings.

Fees

Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$53,200 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.


Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
