Program Overview


Overview of the Commerce and Information Technology Double Degree

The Commerce and Information Technology double degree is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both commerce and information technology. This double degree builds analytical, quantitative, and data-focused skills across both disciplines, enabling students to shape an exciting and future-ready career.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry into this course, you must satisfy all of the following requirements:


  • Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, you must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require you to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
  • Additional requirements: Prerequisite subjects and English language requirements must be met.

Prerequisite Subjects

You must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements for this course:


  • English: VCE: Score of 25 in Units 3 and 4 of English (EAL) or English (Other).
  • Maths: VCE: Score of 25 in Units 3 and 4 of Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics.

English Language Requirements

All Monash undergraduate courses require you to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:


  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent): You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level.
  • Language of instruction: You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed half a year of full-time study at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher at an institution where English is the language of instruction.
  • English tests: If you have not met English entry requirements as outlined above, Monash accepts the following English tests where the entry scores for this course are as follows:
    • IELTS (Academic): Overall 6.5, with minimum scores of 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
    • TOEFL iBT: Total score of 79, with minimum scores of 12 in Listening, 13 in Reading, 18 in Speaking, and 21 in Writing.

Double Degree Structure

The double degree course allows you to study towards two different degrees at the same time and graduate with two separate qualifications. The Bachelor of Commerce is structured in three equal parts, and the Bachelor of Information Technology is also structured in three equal parts.


Bachelor of Commerce

  • A. Commerce specified study: This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of commerce and expose you to several commerce disciplines.
  • B. Commerce listed major: This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area.

Bachelor of Information Technology

  • A. Information technology specified study: This will provide you with foundation skills and knowledge for your information technology education.
  • B. Information technology listed major: This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one area of Information Technology.

Fees

Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$53,200 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.


Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
