Introduction to the Bachelor of Economics
The Bachelor of Economics is a comprehensive program that explores the principles of economics and their application in a commercial context. This degree is designed to equip students with analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and informed decision-making capabilities.

Entry Requirements
To be considered for entry into this course, students must satisfy the following requirements:
- Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, students must be at least 17 years of age.
- Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require students to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
- Additional Requirements: Prerequisite subjects and English language requirements must be met.
Prerequisite Subjects
Students must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements:
- English: VCE: Score of 25 in Units 3 and 4 of English (EAL) or English (Other).
- Maths: VCE: Score of 25 in Units 3 and 4 of Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics.
English Entry Requirements
All Monash undergraduate courses require students to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:
- English Subject: Completion of an English subject in prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level.
- Language of Instruction: Completion of half a year of full-time study at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication, and assessment.
- English Tests: Achievement of specified scores in English tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Pearson Test of English.
Course Structure
The course develops through four themes:
- A. Foundation Commerce Knowledge: Comprehensive study of economics and econometrics disciplines.
- B. Specialist Discipline Knowledge: Development of capacity as a critical and creative professional.
- C. Capstone Experience: Consolidation of knowledge and skills acquired throughout the study of the specialisation.
- D. Free Elective Study: Further development of knowledge of economics or commerce more broadly.
Double Degree Courses
Double degree courses allow students to study towards two different degrees at the same time and graduate with two separate qualifications.
Fees
Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for 2025 is A$53,200 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.
Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning.
