Laws and Science

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Science from Monash is a double degree that pairs practical legal skills with a thoughtful analysis into the complex interaction between science and society. Bachelor of Laws (Honours) & Science students will gain knowledge of the Australian legal system while specialising in a chosen scientific field aligned with their career aspirations.

International Entry Requirements

You need to satisfy all of the following requirements to be considered for entry into this course.


  • Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, you must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require you to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
  • Additional Requirements:

    • English tests

Higher Education

  • Non-school leavers: Monash applicants (via Internal Course Transfer): Applicants who have partially completed an undergraduate degree must have completed the equivalent of one semester (24 points) or more of a recognised university degree and no more than the equivalent of two years of full-time study (96 points); and achieved a distinction average or better across all the university units, irrespective of discipline.
  • Non-school leavers: External applicants: Applicants who have partially completed an undergraduate degree must have completed the equivalent of one year (48 points) or more of a recognised university degree and no more than the equivalent of two years of full-time study (96 points); and achieved a distinction average or better across all the university units, irrespective of discipline.

English Entry Requirements

All Monash undergraduate courses require you to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:


  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent): You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level (score requirements also apply).
  • Language of instruction: You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed half a year of full-time study (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points) at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher (or equivalent) at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication and assessment for all aspects of study for the whole of the educational institution.
  • English tests: If you have not met English entry requirements as outlined above, Monash accepts the following English tests where the entry scores for this course are as follows:
    • IELTS (Academic): 7.0
    • TOEFL iBT: 94
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65
    • C1 Advanced (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English): 185
    • C2 Proficiency (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): 185

Prerequisite Subject Requirements

You must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements for this course:


  • English: VCE: Score of 35 in English (EAL) or 30 in English (Other); IB Diploma Programme: Score of 5 in English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature.
  • Science: VCE: Score of 25 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Physics or Psychology; IB Diploma Programme: Score of 4 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Systems and Societies, Geography, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Physics or Psychology.

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. See standard 8.19 and 8.20 of National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.
