Advancing Skills in Paediatric Physiotherapy - Cerebral Palsy
Overview
This course is designed for physiotherapists who have some experience working in the area of paediatrics and is targeted at a more advanced level of practice. The course is not available to non-physiotherapists.
Course Details
- Date: Week 1 commences 8 September 2025
- Time: Asynchronous module, 8-10 hours per week. Self-paced
- Duration: 4 weeks

- Fees: A$800 (GST Inclusive), A$350 for Monash Health Staff
Who Should Attend
Physiotherapists who have some experience working in the area of paediatrics and is targeted at a more advanced level of practice.
What You Will Learn
At the completion of this course, it is expected that the participant will be able to:
- Describe relevant embryology in regards to the timing of cerebral insults that result in a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the common risk factors that lead to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
- Be able to identify and select appropriate outcome measures for children with cerebral palsy across the age span.
- Demonstrate an understanding of hip surveillance requirements in cerebral palsy and how the management differs.
- Identify and understand the principles of management of different movement disorders.
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of burst versus ongoing therapy prescription.
- Apply the principles of advanced gait correction via orthotic prescription with the use of cases to illustrate.
- Understand the rationale for the timing of medical interventions.
- Understand the complexity in equipment prescription in cerebral palsy across the lifespan.
- Describe the complexities around transition from paediatric to adult services.
- Tailor outcome measurement for different ages based on the ICF.
Program Structure
An Australian entry to practice degree in physiotherapy or equivalent for international students. Each online paediatric short course contributes to an estimated 40 hours of professional development.
Assessment and Refund Policy
Participants who cancel 4 weeks prior to course commencement will be entitled to a refund, less a $100 administration fee. Participants that cancel less than 4 weeks before course commencement will be entitled to a 50% refund of the cost of the paediatric short course, and after course commencement, no refunds will be issued.
