Program Overview

The Advancing Skills in Paediatric Physiotherapy - Neonates and infants course is designed for physiotherapists with experience in paediatrics, targeting an advanced level of practice. This course is not available to non-physiotherapists.


Course Details

  • Date: Week 1 commences April 2026, with a LIVE online learning day in May 2026 (to be confirmed)
  • Time: Asynchronous module, 8-10 hours per week, self-paced
  • Duration: 4 weeks

Who Should Attend

  • Physiotherapists with some experience working in paediatrics, targeted at a more advanced level of practice
  • Note: This course is not available to non-physiotherapists

What You Will Learn

At the completion of this course, participants are expected to be able to:


  • Describe the phases of neonatal neurological development and the features of each developmental phase
  • Describe the phases of neonatal respiratory development and the features of each developmental phase
  • Apply knowledge of typical neonatal and infant development to the clinical physiotherapy management of neonates and infants
  • Recognise typically developing movement and postural behaviour of neonates and infants
  • Define the principles of developmental care and apply these to clinical practice with the neonatal population
  • Identify standardised outcome measures appropriate for assessment of the neonatal and infant population
  • Identify multiple physiotherapy strategies to address deviations from typical development in the neonatal and infant populations
  • Describe a comprehensive musculo-skeletal physiotherapy assessment of the newborn and the infant
  • Describe the management of common musculo-skeletal disorders of infancy

Program Structure

  • An Australian entry to practice degree in physiotherapy or equivalent for international students
  • Each online paediatric short course contributes to an estimated 40 hours of professional development
  • The course consists of asynchronous online learning over four weeks, with a live interactive online learning day following completion of the initial four weeks of the program
  • Assessment tasks are time-sensitive to ensure the work is evenly paced throughout the course

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Participants who cancel 4 weeks prior to course commencement will be entitled to a refund, less a $100 administration fee
  • Participants that cancel less than 4 weeks before course commencement will be entitled to a 50% refund of the cost of the paediatric short course
  • After course commencement, no refunds will be issued
