Overview

This one-year honours course is for those who wish to increase their understanding of theoretical and methodological aspects of research, to develop your analytic, research and communication skills, and to provide you with advanced knowledge in specific areas of the science and practice of psychology.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Entry Requirements (International students): An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), with a 60-point APAC-accredited major sequence in psychology, or qualification assessed as equivalent by APAC, with a distinction average (75%) or above in 48 points of studies in core psychology units at level two and three.
  • Alternative qualifications and prerequisites: For other domestic and international qualification entry requirements and scores for this course use the study credit and admissions eligibility search.
  • English entry requirements:
    • Level A: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50
    • TOEFL Internet-based test: 79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21
    • Other approved English tests: (minimum entry scores apply)
  • University entrance requirements: Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.

Extra Requirements

  • If your bachelor’s degree was completed more than 10 years before 1 January of the year for which you are seeking enrolment, you must, in addition, have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the University advanced writing skills and/or research productivity in psychology and/or relevant industry experience within this 10-year period, to be eligible to apply.

Course Structure

The course is structured in two parts: Part A. Research and Part B. Coursework.


Part A. Research

In these studies you will complete a supervised research project which aims to provide you with training in both discipline-specific and generic research skills. The research project forms the basis of a literature review and research paper presented at the end of the course.


Part B. Coursework

In these studies you will expand your knowledge of statistics and the ethics of psychological research and practice, as well as broaden your understanding of the psychological science discipline.

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
