Overview of the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Global Studies

The Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Global Studies is a double degree course that allows students to study towards two different degrees at the same time, and graduate with two separate qualifications. This course is structured in three equal parts, with the Bachelor of Commerce providing a broad foundation for the study of commerce and exposing students to several commerce disciplines. The Bachelor of Global Studies course is a specialist course that compares and contrasts a range of global challenges and solutions in different historical, linguistic, cultural, and geographical settings.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Commerce is structured in three equal parts:

• A. Commerce specified study: This will provide students with a broad foundation for their study of commerce and expose them to several commerce disciplines.
• B. Commerce listed major: This will provide students with a focused program of study that will develop their expertise in one discipline area.
• C. Free elective study: This will enable students to further develop their knowledge of their chosen major, or to select units from across the University in which they are eligible to enrol.

The Bachelor of Global Studies course is structured in three parts:

• A. Global studies core: Students will compare and contrast a range of global challenges and solutions in different historical, linguistic, cultural, and geographical settings.
• B. Global studies specialist knowledge: Students will gain in-depth knowledge of a specific facet or facets of global studies through units grounded in a wide variety of humanities and social science disciplines.
• C. Global studies capstone unit: Students will complete a capstone unit that will draw together the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their studies and apply them to real-world problems and scenarios.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry into this course, students must satisfy the following requirements:

• Minimum age requirements: Students must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrolment.
• Academic entry requirements: Students must have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
• English entry requirements: Students must satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:
  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent)
  • Language of instruction
  • English tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
• Prerequisite subject requirements: Students must have completed specific prerequisite subjects (e.g., English, maths) to be eligible for this course.

International Entry Requirements

International students must satisfy the following entry requirements:

• Minimum age requirements: Students must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrolment.
• Academic entry requirements: Students must have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
• English entry requirements: Students must satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:
  • English subject (Australian Year 12 equivalent)
  • Language of instruction
  • English tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
• Prerequisite subject requirements: Students must have completed specific prerequisite subjects (e.g., English, maths) to be eligible for this course.

Fees

The fees for this course are subject to change annually. The current fee for international students is A$53,200 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of this course will be equipped with a broad range of skills and knowledge that will enable them to pursue a variety of career paths, including:

• Business and commerce
• International relations and diplomacy
• Government and public policy
• Non-profit and community sectors
• Education and research

Please note that if you apply for a course transfer, you should still enrol in your current course as if you were continuing so as not to jeopardise your enrolment in the Faculty if your transfer application is unsuccessful. More about Course Transfer.

International students applying for a visa need to satisfy English requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs where these requirements and acceptable English tests differ from Monash University.

The English measures outlined above must be completed within 3 years prior to the Monash course commencement date (other time limitations may apply as outlined in the Admission to Coursework Courses and Units Procedure). If you have completed several measures of English proficiency over a period of time, the highest valid measure will be accepted.

Monash University reserve the right to ask students to complete an English test to meet English course requirements upon request.
