Engineering and Science
The Bachelor of Engineering and Science focuses on real-life problems to help understand the interaction between engineering and society. The combinations of engineering and science fields are almost limitless, providing many possible career choices.
Course Details
- Location: On-campus at Clayton: Full time

Entry Requirements
International Entry Requirements
To be considered for entry into this course, you must satisfy all of the following requirements:
- Minimum Age: At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, you must be at least 17 years of age.
- Academic: All Monash undergraduate courses require you to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score.
- Additional Requirements: You must satisfy the following additional requirements for this course:
- Selection Requirements: Prerequisites must be completed within the past 5 years prior to admission.
- Special Requirements: This course has special requirements, refer to the course handbook under 'additional information' for more information.
English Entry Requirements
All Monash undergraduate courses require you to satisfy English entry requirements in one of the following ways:
- English Subject (Australian Year 12 Equivalent): You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level (score requirements also apply).
- Language of Instruction: You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed half a year of full-time study (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points) at Australian VET Diploma (AQF level 5) or higher (or equivalent) at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication, and assessment for all aspects of study for the whole of the educational institution.
- English Tests: If you have not met English entry requirements as outlined above, Monash accepts the following English tests where the entry scores for this course are as follows:

Prerequisite Subject Requirements
You must satisfy the following prerequisite subject requirements for this course:
- English: VCE: Units 3 and 4 - English (EAL) or English (Other) with a score of 25; IB Diploma Programme: Standard Level - English A: Literature, English A: Language and Literature, Literature and Performance, English AB, or English B with a score of 4; Higher Level - English A: Literature, English A: Language and Literature, or English B with a score of 3.
- Maths: VCE: Units 3 and 4 - Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics with a score of 25; IB Diploma Programme: Standard Level - Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches with a score of 4; Higher Level - Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches with a score of 3.
- Science: VCE: Units 3 and 4 - Chemistry or Physics with a score of 25; IB Diploma Programme: Standard Level - Chemistry or Physics with a score of 4; Higher Level - Chemistry or Physics with a score of 3.
Double Degree Structure
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is a specialist course that develops through four themes that combine to underpin engineering practice:
- Engineering Fundamentals and Breadth Study: These will develop your understanding of natural and physical sciences, mathematics, numerical analysis, statistics, and computer and information sciences that underpin all engineering disciplines.
- Engineering Design: This will develop the engineering techniques, tools, and resources for the conduct, design, and management of engineering design processes and projects, both in the industrial setting and in the development of research experiments.
- Engineering Knowledge and Application: This will provide in-depth knowledge of the specific engineering methods of a branch of engineering, and will integrate the specific engineering methods and discipline knowledge into practice.
- Professional Practice: This will develop your skills in readiness for the engineering workplace. You will develop skills in effective team membership and team leadership, the use and management of commercially relevant data, and the legal responsibilities of engineers.
The Bachelor of Science is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course, you complete:
- Part A. Science Specified Study: This will expose you to several science disciplines contributing breadth to your understanding of science and giving you the opportunity to learn more about several disciplines before finalizing your choice of major.
- Part B. Science Listed Major: This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area.
- Part C. Science Elective Study: This will enable you to further develop your knowledge of your chosen major, or to select units from across the faculty that are of interest to you.
Career Opportunities
The combinations of engineering and science fields are almost limitless, providing many possible career choices. You might combine environmental engineering with atmospheric science, ecology and conservation biology, genetics, plant sciences, zoology, chemistry, computational science, geographical science, or statistics. You might augment your aerospace degree with studies in physics or astrophysics, pair mechanical engineering with applied mathematics, or combine chemical engineering with geosciences.
Fees
Fees are subject to change annually. The international fee for this course is $56,300 per 48 credit points, which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.
Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one-third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enroll in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
