Master of Marketing and Digital Communications

The Master of Marketing and Digital Communications is designed for professionals ready to influence not just consumer behaviour, but also reputation, relationships, and organisational direction across sectors. This course brings together two distinct but complementary fields – Marketing and Communications – to give you a more comprehensive, strategic understanding of how messages shape outcomes, change perceptions, and build trust.


Course Overview

This course consists of 12 units that comprehensively bring together studies of marketing and digital communications with advanced expertise drawing on industry best practice. Core areas of study include:


  • Digital fluency: Gain in-depth understanding of how emerging digital technologies are shaping the world of marketing and communications.
  • Communication strategy: Learn how to leverage digital media, SEO, SEM, digital analytics, and customer insights, to ensure comprehensive communication journeys that build reputation and brand trust and develop value for consumers.
  • Responding to crisis: Design effective and ethical crisis communication strategies, highlighting the role of empathy in disaster responses, key to roles across corporate, government, and non-for-profit sectors.

Structure

The course is structured in two parts: Part A. Core master’s study, and Part B. Advanced expertise. All students complete Part A. Depending upon prior qualifications, you may receive credit for Part B.


Part A. Core Master's Study

These units draw on best practices within communications and media studies.


  • Principles of global communications: This unit will develop foundation knowledge and skills in the field of global communications at graduate level.
  • Strategic communications in a digital era: Strategic communication in a digital era further explores broad debates in the core concepts and theories of strategic communication across public, private, and non-government sectors in a global context.
  • Data analytics in communications: In this unit, students acquire skills in gathering, analysing, and visualising digital data to gain a better understanding of audience sentiment, behaviour, and engagement.
  • Effective crisis communications: Effective crisis communications will identify and critically evaluate key concepts and theories in the context of crisis communications and issues management.
  • Marketing principles in a digital world: Marketing principles in a digital world examines the concepts and theories of marketing and applies them within a digital context.
  • Social media marketing: The social media landscape will be investigated in terms of the tools and technologies, as well as consumers and communities.
  • Integrated marketing communications: Integrated marketing communications utilises industry-based and theoretical frameworks and processes to prepare an integrated marketing communications plan.
  • Digital marketing: Digital marketing takes traditional views of marketing and exposes them to critical analysis in the light of technological change.

Part B. Advanced Expertise

Choose any 4 elective units to focus your area of interest further and contribute to your portfolio of professional development.


Entry Requirements

Your entry level will determine how many units you must complete to graduate with a Master of Marketing and Digital Communications. The Master of Marketing and Digital Communications offers two pathways to entry depending on prior qualifications.


  • Entry level 1: 72 credit points to complete: An Australian bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60, or equivalent qualification approved by the faculty.
  • Entry level 2: 48 credit points to complete: A Monash University Graduate Certificate of Marketing and Digital Communications with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60.

Fees

For the Master of Marketing and Digital Communications, the estimated cost is $4,637.50 per unit. You may be eligible to receive a FEE-HELP loan to cover part or all of your tuition. Fees are subject to change annually.

You can graduate with a Master of Marketing and Digital Communications in approximately 2 years part-time accelerated, after completing 12 units (72 total credit points). You can also exit the course after completing approximately 0.7 years part-time accelerated, 4 units (24 credit points), and you’ll receive a Graduate Certificate of Marketing and Digital Communications.
