Program Overview


Introduction to Australian Physiotherapy Practice Workshops Cardiorespiratory

Overview

This workshop provides an overview to common principles and practice in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy in Australia, through the use of a variety of teaching and learning activities including case studies. Participants will be provided with access to electronic pre-reading materials prior to the workshop. The workshop is targeted at clinical skills and clinical reasoning development relevant to the Australian Healthcare system.

Workshop Objectives

At the completion of the cardiorespiratory workshop, participants should be able to:


  1. Discuss modes of service delivery in Australia, in the context of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
  2. List key components of a cardiorespiratory interview
  3. Identify the elements of a cardiorespiratory physical examination
  4. Demonstrate modification of assessment relevant to patient pathology
  5. Apply clinical reasoning in identification of patient problems and treatment priorities
  6. Demonstrate commonly used treatment techniques and outcome measures
  7. Identify key issues related to goal setting and discharge planning in the acute cardiorespiratory patient.

Important Notes

  • For all Monash University physiotherapy courses, including short courses, you must meet the minimum English language requirements which is the equivalent to International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 7.0 (no band lower than 6.5).
  • The courses have been developed for the Australian context and may or may not be relevant to international settings.
  • Cost includes pre-reading materials, morning and afternoon tea.
