Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.)

The Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.) at the American University in Dubai provides engineers, architects, and construction professionals with an opportunity to broaden their education portfolio and advance in their careers. Through a well-balanced combination of theory and practice, students are able to combine their research-based graduate studies with first-hand practical experience in the construction of infrastructure, energy, oil and gas, industrial, commercial, and residential facilities.


Program Overview

The curriculum provides a unique integration of global and regional perspectives, emphasizing the role of technology, technical communication, and research in the construction management profession. With classes taught by world-class faculty holding doctoral degrees in engineering, business, and law, the 30-credit hour program can be completed in one and a half years (full-time) or two years (part-time). The curriculum encompasses a blend of technical and management courses, augmented by two thesis courses.


Program Details

The Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.) at AUD consists of 30 credit hours of graduate-level courses. The program includes 24 credit hours of coursework, as well as a 6-credit-hour master’s thesis in a research topic agreed upon with the graduate advisor. The curriculum’s emphasis on both coursework relevant to construction and on developing a record of publication through thesis work makes the program desirable for students wishing to pursue doctoral studies.

Admission Requirements

All applying students must have:


  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related discipline, from an accredited national or regional institutional body, achieving a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) or better in undergraduate study
  • Candidates who have a minimum of three years of work experience will be given preference for admission
  • For students who do not have a background in Engineering, Architecture, or a closely-related discipline, undergraduate transcripts will be evaluated to determine whether undergraduate prerequisite courses or a placement examination is required
  • Students must achieve an academic IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL score of (550 ITP [Paper-based]) or (79 IBT), or 1400 on EmSAT English
