Introduction to the French/German Program
The French/German program at Western Washington University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the French and German languages, cultures, and literatures. Program Overview
The French/German program is a Bachelor of Arts degree that requires students to complete 100 credits, with 50 credits at the 200 level or above in each language. The program includes courses in language structure, literary analysis, culture, and civilization, as well as electives that allow students to explore their interests in more depth.

Admission and Declaration Process
To declare a French/German major, students must make an appointment with a language advisor and bring their unofficial transcript, documentation for courses taken at other colleges or universities, and any study-abroad credits earned. Students must also submit a Student Academic Declaration and Change Form.
Grade Requirements
A grade of C- or better is required for all major and minor courses, and supporting courses for majors and minors. A GPA of 2.50 or above is required in both languages.
Program Requirements

- 50 credits at the 200 level or above in French, including:
- FREN 301: Grammar Review and Composition
- FREN 314: Phonetics
- FREN 401: Advanced Composition
- One FREN culture course
- One FREN literature course
- Electives (25 credits) from FREN 200, 300, and 400 levels
- 50 credits at the 200 level or above in German, including:
- GERM 201: Intermediate German: Language, Communication & Culture
- GERM 202: Intermediate German: Language, Communication & Culture
- GERM 203: Intermediate German: Language, Communication & Culture
- GERM 301: High Intermediate German: Contexts & Culture
- GERM 302: Advanced German: Contexts & Cultures I
- GERM 340: Introduction to German Literature
- GERM 401: Advanced German: Contexts & Cultures II
- GERM 402: Advanced German: Contexts & Cultures III
- Electives (10 credits) from GERM 300 and 400 levels
