Program Overview
Introduction to the Education for Inclusive Environments Program
The Education for Inclusive Environments, BAE, Dual Endorsement Outreach Program is designed to provide educators with a broad understanding of the fundamental right and value of including all children from diverse backgrounds. This program focuses on educational inclusion for the nation's increasingly diverse population, providing candidates with the understandings and skills necessary to navigate complex systems of teaching and learning within school and community environments.
Program Description
This program provides coursework and practica that lead to a recommendation for a residency teaching certificate with both elementary and special education endorsements. The program is rigorous, with high expectations, but the rewards are also high. Graduates are actively recruited by school districts to teach in both elementary classrooms and special education settings.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the program requires:
- A transferable A.A. degree from a Washington state community college or satisfaction of Western's General Education Requirements
- A minimum grade point average of 2.75 overall or for the most recent 45 quarter credit hours
- Meeting the basic skills requirement, which may be met by taking the West-B exam, SAT scores, or ACT scores
- Completion of an English composition course with a B- or better
- Three letters of recommendation
- A reflective essay
