Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design program at Regent's University London is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the fashion industry. The program focuses on the development of creative and technical skills, with an emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship.


Program Structure

The program is structured over three years, with each year comprising three terms. The first year introduces students to the fundamentals of fashion design, including pattern cutting, garment construction, and textile development. The second year builds on these skills, with a focus on industry design, deconstruction theory, and entrepreneurial challenge. The third year is dedicated to the development of a professional portfolio and a major project, which showcases the student's skills and creativity.

  • Pattern and Construction II: Further Exploration in Pattern Cutting and Making: This module further develops students' knowledge of pattern cutting and construction skills, with a focus on sustainable practices and finishing techniques.
  • Art, Culture and Fashion Design: This module explores the overlaps between art, culture, and fashion design, with a focus on visual research, creative ideas, and collection development.
  • Creative Fashion Design Practice: This module introduces students to the skills and thinking required for creative fashion design practice, including research skills, idea generation, and design development.
  • Pattern and Construction I: Introduction to Pattern Cutting and Making: This module equips students with the fundamental cutting and garment-making skills required for fashion design.
  • Exploring Industry and Entrepreneurship: This module provides an introduction to the changes being experienced in the world of work, with a focus on industry and entrepreneurship in the fashion sector.

Year 1 Modules

  • London Perspectives: This interdisciplinary module introduces students to the relationships between a range of subject areas and London.
  • Global Perspectives (Spring Term): This module completes a number of practical group tasks inspired by contemporary intercultural, political, and social issues.
  • Language Modules: Students can choose from a range of language modules, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

Year 2 Modules

  • Industry Design in Practice: This module further develops students' theoretical, design, and technical skills through a creative design-based project.
  • Design Studio in Practice: This module expands and develops students' theoretical, design, and technical skills, with a focus on industry design and deconstruction theory.
  • Deconstruction Theory in Practice: This module examines the role of deconstruction theory in practice, with a focus on creative critical thinking and innovative ideas.
  • Entrepreneurial Challenge: This module develops entrepreneurial thinking and skills, with a focus on growing entrepreneurial ideas and creating an entrepreneurial plan.
  • Placement: This module provides students with the opportunity to experience industry and entrepreneurship in an external organization.
  • Industry Challenge: This module gives students an insight into the culture, practices, and commercial contexts of an industry, field, or sector.

Year 3 Modules

  • Product Development in Practice: This module offers students the opportunity to explore, test, and develop ideas three-dimensionally through sampling, prototyping, and toiling.
  • Professional Portfolio: This module allows students to create a range of self-promotional material and prepare an industry-ready design portfolio.
  • Major Project I: This module is the culmination of students' studies, with a focus on the development of a self-directed project that reflects their interests and career aspirations.
  • Major Project II: This module realizes and completes the work started in Major Project I, with a focus on the application of discipline-specific and interdisciplinary learning.

Tuition Fees

  • September 2025 start: £23,000 per year, fixed for the duration of the course.
  • September 2026 start: £24,500 per year, fixed for the duration of the course.

Careers

Graduates of the BA (Hons) Fashion Design program can pursue a range of careers in the fashion industry, including fashion designer, product development assistant, creative pattern cutter, fashion PR or marketer, fashion stylist/illustrator, and digital media assistant. The program also provides a direct pathway to the MA International Fashion Marketing program.
