Program Overview
The BA (Hons) Art History with Foundation is a four-year course that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of art history, from the Renaissance to the present day. The course is designed to appeal to a wide range of students, including those who have not previously studied art history.
Course Structure
The course is divided into three terms per year, with the first year focusing on the foundation modules, the second year on subject core modules, and the third year on subject core and special elective modules.
Foundation Year
The foundation year provides students with a solid grounding in academic skills and principles, as well as an introduction to the subject area. The modules include:

Language Modules
Students can also choose to take language modules, including:
- Languages (Grades 1-6) – available Autumn and Spring
- Advanced Language for Professionals (Grade 7) – available Autumn or Spring
- Business English: Professional Writing – available Autumn or Spring
- Business English/Advanced Business English – available Autumn or Spring
- Advanced Spanish through Film (Grade 8) – available Autumn or Spring
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the course, students must meet the following requirements:
- 5 GCSEs at grade A-C or equivalent
- US High School (Year 11) with a minimum GPA of 2.3/4.0
- 24 points in the International Baccalaureate (Year 1)
- Equivalent qualifications as deemed acceptable by the University
English Language Requirements
Students must also meet the English language requirements, which include:
- GCSE English language at grade C (4)
- IB SL or HL English A at grade 4
- IB HL English B at grade 4
- IELTS Academic at 5.5 overall and 5.5 in each component
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the course are:
- £23,000 per year, fixed for the duration of the course (September 2025 or January 2026 start)
- £24,500 per year, fixed for the duration of the course (September 2026 or January 2027 start)

Graduates of the course have gone on to work in a range of roles, including:
- Joining galleries, historic houses, auction houses, museums
- Working for an art fair company
- Getting into arts management – working with a range of creative companies
- Working in PR, social media management, interpretation, development
- Becoming an art advisor or consultant for a public business or private client
- Getting into fine art publishing or journalism
- Joining your family business and expanding their exposure, clients, etc.
