Auto Repair Technician, AAS
The Auto Repair Technician AAS degree prepares students for employment in automotive dealership service centers, independent repair shops, and specialty or customized shops. Today’s automobile is designed and engineered at a higher level of technology than ever before, producing a high demand for trained repair technicians who can meet the increased technical challenges and demonstrate advanced knowledge, particularly in the electrical and electronics areas. As a well-trained technician with current skills, you can expect rapid employment and a steady rising income. In addition, this program includes preparation for the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.
Program Outcomes
Auto Repair Technician AAS degree graduates will:
- be prepared for employment in automotive dealership service centers, independent repair shops, and specialty or customized shops
- be prepared to succeed on the ASE Certification exam
- diagnose mechanical malfunctions and performance problems and make necessary repairs
- operate precision automotive diagnostic and repair equipment
- interpret repair manuals and computer-based programs dealing with specifications and repair procedures
- demonstrate good public relations with customers and colleagues
- skillfully use tools and equipment
- demonstrate communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork skills
- meet Humanities, Quantitative Reasoning, Social Science, and Written Communication general education distribution area outcomes
Program Requirements
Quarter One
- AUTO 110 Automotive Introduction 15 credits
- MATH 105 Applied Math 5 credits (Students who placed below MATH 105 can take their first math course in Quarter One.)
Quarter Two
- AUTO 115 Electrical Systems 15 credits
- ART 102 Introduction to 2D Design 5 credits (or any Humanities course)
Quarter Three
- AUTO 150 Chassis Systems 15 credits
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits (Students who placed below ENGL& 101 can take their first English course in Quarter Three.)
Quarter Four
- AUTO 201 Engine Systems 15 credits
- SOC& 101 Introduction to Sociology 5 credits (or any Social Science course)
Quarter Five
- AUTO 230 Transmission & Final Drive Systems 15 credits
Quarter Six
- AUTO 241 Engine Performance 15 credits
General Education Requirements - 20 Credits
- MATH 105 Applied Math 5 credits (or any college-level Quantitative Reasoning course)
- ART 102 Introduction to 2D Design 5 credits (or any Humanities course)
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits
- SOC& 101 Introduction to Sociology 5 credits (or any Social Science course)
Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement.
