Practical Accounting, Certificate of Proficiency
The Practical Accounting certificate program prepares students to gain practical training in accounting through continuous application of their accounting knowledge in many phases of the program. Students find jobs in companies ranging from small proprietorships to corporate accounting departments, governmental organizations, and public accounting firms.
A keyboarding skill of 30 wpm or concurrent enrollment in a keyboarding class is highly recommended.
Practical Accounting certificate graduates will:
- be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field
- apply manual methods and software tools to prepare accounting statements and reports
- complete the accounting cycle, including end-of-period adjustments
- demonstrate communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork skills
- meet Quantitative Reasoning, Social Science, and Written Communication general education distribution area outcomes

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement.
