Program Overview

The Welding Technology certificate program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology is designed to equip students with the necessary welding skills for various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and maintenance. The program focuses on teaching students the latest welding processes and techniques, enabling them to read blueprints and fabricate products of different shapes and sizes.


Program Objectives

Upon completion of the Welding Technology certificate program, graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions as welder apprentices, welders, welder fabricators, and welding fitters. They will also demonstrate essential skills in communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork. Additionally, graduates will meet the general education distribution area outcomes in Quantitative Reasoning, Social Science, and Written Communication.


Program Requirements

The Welding Technology certificate program requires a total of 72 credits. The program is structured into four quarters, with the following required course sequence:

    • WELD 118 Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Cutting Lecture (3 credits)

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement

Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college's Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. These courses are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneously.

The total program credits required for the Welding Technology certificate is 72 credits. It is the student's responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor, as the college does not offer every course each quarter. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
