Auto Body Technician, AAS
The Auto Body Technician AAS degree prepares students with the skills necessary to compete in the auto body industry. The program consists of five quarters of collision auto body repair and auto paint training. The laboratory area is designed to simulate an actual industry repair environment and includes a state-of-the-art painting booth with the latest in high-tech equipment.
Program Mission and Outcomes
The Auto Body Technician AAS degree graduates will:
- be prepared for employment in the auto collision and restoration industry
- demonstrate skill in refinishing, structural repair, non-structural repair, estimating, and shop management
- dismantle collision related components, replace damaged parts, and perform metal straightening, welding, plastic repair, painting, estimating, and detailing of vehicles
- demonstrate advanced collision repair and paint techniques for production purposes
- demonstrate communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork skills
- meet Humanities, Quantitative Reasoning, Social Science, and Written Communication general education distribution area outcomes
Program Requirements
Annual Course Sequence
The first four quarters listed below are offered on a four-quarter rotation and are not sequential; a student may start any quarter. The final quarter is taken when all other courses have been completed.
- Fall Quarter
- ABT 215 Structural Repair 15 credits
- ART 102 Introduction to 2D Design 5 credits (or any Humanities course)
- Winter Quarter
- ABT 225 Non-Structural Repair 15 credits
- PSYC& 100 General Psychology 5 credits (or any Social Science course)
- Spring Quarter
- ABT 235 Estimating and Shop Management 15 credits
- MATH& 107 Math in Society 5 credits (or any college-level Quantitative Reasoning course)
- Summer Quarter
- ABT 245 Refinishing 15 credits
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits
- Final Quarter
- ABT 255 Advanced Auto Body 15 credits
General Education Requirements - 20 Credits

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement.
